Colonial Williamsburg Fall 2016 Day 1

Official day 1
We went to the Cabinet Maker's and I played the harpsichord, then we went to the Raleigh Tavern for Handle, Bach and Who. Guess what? They let us play the harpsichord in the Tavern!!

 Kristi (who is an AMAZING cellist) got to play a viola de gamba (which was the "lady's cello" of the 18th century)

Then we took pictures behind the post office




Remember our friend Clare we met last time? We waited for the Fife and Drum core to appear on to the street to surprise Clare.

When she walked out I waved to her. She did a double take, realized who we were then she 
flipped out!
I have never had someone so happy to see us! After attack hugs, we took this blurry picture <3 p="">

 I have to say we got a lot of attention for our "reunion" (attack hugs, and squeals included). The rest of the core was wondering who on earth we were, and an interpreter even commented about it the next day! :)
I wore my jacket, and it served me quite well! I love the range of motion I have when I wear it!
Kristi wore a hastily made (I'm talking about 5 days) faux polonaise with lots of ruched trim.

I made a thing.

I finished my freshman year of nursing school, and am free for the summer, so I've  had some time to get back into sewing/costuming! First, I made a thing. It's a Middle Earth thing. My inspiration was Eowyn's house of healing dress. It's very plain, but still so beautiful. (If I had gotten whacked by the Dark Lord's mace-on-a-chain thingie, I would want to wear this dress while I recovered too.) The dress laces in the back with handsewn eyelets. I really wanted this to feel like something from Middle Earth, so a zipper just didn't fit the mood. I wore an elven necklace my sister got for me,  and the ear cuffs from my Arwen cosplay. The skirt is *so full* I can't even.

The Patriot's Riding Habit

I've wanted to make a riding habit for a while, and finally started one a few months ago, but then life happened and I didn't work on it for a long time, then I decided to finish it for our upcoming trip to Colonial Williamsburg *s queals* . This will be my fourth trip! I decided to make the habit look like the generals uniforms, so it's kind of a cosplay project. I draped the entire thing to myself which had it's trouble spots, but was enjoyable just the same. Enough talking - here are the pictures! Ready to cut out the waistcoat from the drafted pattern Waistcoat lining with puffy shirt  (the sleeves on the puffy shirt are ridiculously puffy :D )  And now with the fabric  And then I started draping the coat.  I'm sorry the lighting is so bad!  I didn't take any pictures of the construction of the coat, but here it is after I added the sleeves  And here it is after I had to modify the sleeves... you&

Colonial Williamsburg Fall 2016 Day 2

On day two, I wore the riding habit. It was overcast all morning, but it held off long enough for the fife and drum march - we got to see Clare again! <3 even="" i="" if="" it="" overcast="" was="">Even if it was overcast, it was HOT, m ostly because of the humidity. Kristi and I retreated to the cool shade of the Carpenter's shop to play the harpsichord again.   Clare knew more about my riding habit than I did, and tied my scarf for me <3 p=""> Never mess with a girl with a musket ;) Lunch at the King's Arms.  We got to see our waiter from last time - he remembered us!  Stuck a feather in her hat and called it macaroni! Next we decided to do something crazy. It started raining cats and dogs at lunch time. My parents went back to our hotel and left Kristi and I do have are adventures in the rain. We decided to walk to Great Hopes Plantation. Yeah. It's over
