Hi There! My name is Laura :)

I am currently a senior in nursing school (= busy), but I love to make costumes and cosplays during my school breaks! I started my sewing adventure when I was 12 years old- I wanted to make dresses for me and my sister to wear to Colonial Williamsburg. They were an absolute mess, but I got a lot of good feedback on them anyway!

I made my first historically accurate (in style, not construction) gown in 2015.

My senior year in high school is when I really began to explore the world of cosplay. I love being able to fangirl by becoming my favorite character or dressing like I'm from that character's world.

Because I am in nursing school, I have zero time to work on costumes during the school year. But during winter and summer break, I take all the creative energy I've bottled up and go crazy in my sewing room!

The Patriot's Riding Habit

I've wanted to make a riding habit for a while, and finally started one a few months ago, but then life happened and I didn't work on it for a long time, then I decided to finish it for our upcoming trip to Colonial Williamsburg *s queals* . This will be my fourth trip! I decided to make the habit look like the generals uniforms, so it's kind of a cosplay project. I draped the entire thing to myself which had it's trouble spots, but was enjoyable just the same. Enough talking - here are the pictures! Ready to cut out the waistcoat from the drafted pattern Waistcoat lining with puffy shirt  (the sleeves on the puffy shirt are ridiculously puffy :D )  And now with the fabric  And then I started draping the coat.  I'm sorry the lighting is so bad!  I didn't take any pictures of the construction of the coat, but here it is after I added the sleeves  And here it is after I had to modify the sleeves......

Colonial Williamsburg Fall 2016 Day 2

On day two, I wore the riding habit. It was overcast all morning, but it held off long enough for the fife and drum march - we got to see Clare again! Even if it was overcast, it was HOT, m ostly because of the humidity. Kristi and I retreated to the cool shade of the Carpenter's shop to play the harpsichord again.   Clare knew more about my riding habit than I did, and tied my scarf for me Never mess with a girl with a musket ;) Lunch at the King's Arms.  We got to see our waiter from last time - he remembered us!  Stuck a feather in her hat and called it macaroni! Next we decided to do something crazy. It started raining cats and dogs at lunch time. My parents went back to our hotel and left Kristi and I do have are adventures in the rain. We decided to walk to Great Hopes Plantation. Yeah. It's over half a mile in the pouring rain. We had one umbrella, but it didn't do much good. Our petticoats were soaked up to our waists, but ...

50's Swing Dress Part 1

After making Leisl's Dancing Dress , I was in a wild sewing craze, so I jumped into the sewing room, and came out with a 50's swing dress. Here are some pictures of the construction: 1. Cut out a rectangle. The length should be the length from side to side across you chest. The width should be from were you want the neckline to be down to a few inches below your waistline. 2. Pin it on the dress form wrong side out! 3. Make darts to fit the front more to come!
