I'm not dead!! I started college, so sewing has kinda taken a back seat to nursing school. But I got a nice long Christmas break, so I decided to whip up a new gown. It's inspired by the Sissi Movies like my pink one . I think I might decorate it more when I come home again in the summer, but I didn't have enough time to hem yards of ruffles and bows. Also, my mom got me a "Sissi Star" necklace from Vienna for Christmas. Empress Elizabeth was known for the star jewelry she wore in her hair. Jewelers in Austria make star hairclips, necklaces, brooches, and earrings to commemorate the Empress. I was hoping for snow to take pictures, and two days before I left, it did! Oh, and I finally cut my hair! I donated 14 inches on New Year's Eve.  New Year, new hair.

Hello and Happy New Year!!! I hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year. Kristi and I went caroling with our choir again this year. I had the idea to carol in our neighborhood, so we tried that for the first time and got lots of smiles!   We loved having our cousin from Germany with us again this Christmas, and she dressed up too! I also tried a 27 strand braid on Kristi (Actually nine 3-strand braids woven together). Last week, I did a little "fabric shopping" (but I only bought one piece of new  fabric). At goodwill, I found four very lightly used cotton sheets, two white, one pink, and one light blue with pale stripes. I love turning sheets into gowns! There's so much fabric in them, and they're much less expensive than new fabric! In on...

Just a quick post. I've been busy busy busy trying to finish up school #homeschoollife ;) So what have I been working on? I started making a 18th century riding habit. I love  the navy blue mens army uniforms you see in Williamsburg, so I decided to use that as my inspiration. I have the habit shirt and waistcoat almost done. The coat was quite enjoyable to make. I drafted the pattern myself which was FUN! The sleeves are posing a bit of a problem, but that's normal for me ;) I've also started another gown based on an interesting original I found on pinterest. The front literally closes with drawstrings, while the lining is pinned underneath. I have the back made up in the common gown style (I think I did it the right way this time thanks to some advice from the mantua makers in the Margaret Hunter shop). I wanted to add something to the sleeves... Aren't these little cuffs adorable?  Well that's all for now. I should have a proper post u...
