Vanyar Elven Gown

Image
An elven dress worthy of an elf maiden of the Vanyar. The Vanyar, also known as Fair elves, or Light-elves, were the fairest of all elf-kind, hence the name. I made this light silky gown with silver trim to satisfy my inner elf. The bodice is boned and laces in the back, and I'm really happy with how it fits :) don't mind the road signs :)  also dont mind the van, the lighting was good lol

Southern Belle Gown - All Together

Image
We arrived home from Williamsburg, and went back to our busy schedule. This last Friday it dawned on me that "Oh my! The Homeschool Ball is in one week, and my dress isn't nearly done!!" I reluctantly went to the sewing room. I say reluctantly because I haven't liked this dress from the get-go. But I need to have something to wear to the ball! Since fairy godmothers aren't the kind of things you can pull out of your closet whenever you need them, I decided to sew the dress whether I liked it or not. I sewed on the overskirt, hemmed the ruffle, put in the invisible zipper, then tried it on... To my surprise, I LOVED it!!  My younger sister was saying "told you so!" because she was  telling me all along that it would be great. I used Butterick pattern 6195 for the bodice, I made up the sleeves (you can't really see them because of the ruffle - the ruffle is just a long strip of fabric I sewed into the bodice binding), and I used Si...

The Floral Robe a l'Anglaise

Image
Another 18th century gown for our long anticipated trip to Colonial Williamsburg!! I'm working fast on this one to have it ready for the trip. I have a lot of sewing to get done, so back to work for me!! Later that day... trying on a dress with that many pins in it is rather scary... But I survived. After stitching it all down, I added lacing hoops, and tried it on: Next I made the sleeve ruffles. The are rather simple - just strips of pinked fabric and scalloped lace gathered on a piece of bias tape: More coming soon!

Francaise Update!

Image
I've pinned some trim on the edges, and finished the stomacher. I'm super happy with the fit of this dress! Here are some pictures: The stomacher Look how smooth the sides are! So super happy about that!!! Now I just need to sew the trim on, add the sleeve ruffles, hem the petticoat...

Francaise Prototype

Image
So I made this prototype of a robe a la francaise... My facial expressions are kinda weird... sorry about that. I decided that in the real thing, I'll make the side pleats deeper, and close it with hooks and eyes or laces instead of pins. That's just my personal preference. Here are the pictures! The cut out bodice: The back: Adding the laces for adjustability: The pinning in the front: Trim on the top Pleats on the side skirt Pleats on the petticoat:
