Titanic Gowns

Kristi and I have been planning this since Christmas time: We wanted to make dresses from the Titanic movie, and do some sort of photo shoot on the beach this summer (because the beach was the closest thing we had to a cruise ship). We had the plan, but I didn't actually do anything to make it happen until about three weeks before our trip. As soon as I realized how little time we had, I quickly ordered the pattern and fabric. We decided that Kristi would have the red and black gown for when Jack saves Rose, and I would have the pastel gown from when the ship is sinking. We used simplicity pattern 8399, purchased fabric from Fabric Wholesale Direct, and I got a "Heart of the Ocean" necklace from amazon.

Guess what? I was able to sew my dress in ONE DAY!!! New record!! Kristi's took a little longer because it took forever to add all the glitter, sequins, lace and fringe.
Anywho, we did our little photo shoot on the beach, which was difficult with the wind, but we had fun, so this project was a success.

My version of this dress look less faded than Rose's, but hey, it probably would look that way if I had survived a sinking cruise liner while wearing it....

So our beach trip was a family reunion, and my little four year old cousins couldn't get enough of my dress...
